Xiao Zhou always felt that he and Jiang Chengyuan were using each other.

Jiang Chengyuan was infatuated with his pheromones, using his body to break free from pheromone control.

Meanwhile, he wanted to obtain parole, needing an Alpha to be his guardian to deal with regular checks and reports.

All of this was taught to him by Jiang Chengyuan, who told him to be gentle and patient, and to atone for his mistakes.

So when he regained his Alpha status, he breathed a sigh of relief, feeling that the bizarre relationship between him and Jiang Chengyuan should end.

But Jiang Chengyuan still waited for him downstairs, still liked to hug him from behind as before, rubbing his gland with the tip of his nose, gently biting with his teeth.

Clearly unable to mark anymore.

Xiao Zhou felt uncomfortable all over due to the clash of two types of Alpha pheromones, but Jiang Chengyuan said in a hoarse voice, ‘So this is your scent.\'”

Due to body modification, changed from Alpha to Omega, will change back later.

Distorted values, melodramatic romance, slight mystery. Age gap of 12 years.

After reading it, I would now consider this omegaverse novel one of my favorites. The plot is intricately designed, filled with mystery and suspense that kept me hooked from the start. The most appealing aspect lies in the development of the main characters, MC Xiao Zhou and ML. Despite the ML's initial arrogance and haughtiness, which serve the plot well, his complexity makes him a captivating character. Xiao Zhou, on the other hand, appears unassuming but possesses a deep inner world, sensitivity, and a strong sense of justice. As the story unfolds, his personality blossoms, and I found myself emotionally invested in his journey.

The author also deserves credit for the depth of supporting characters, who defy easy categorization as purely good or bad. The focus on the legal system and its implications on justice adds a layer of realism to the narrative.

However, one area that could have been improved is the build-up to the story's climax, although the pacing remained consistent. A spoiler follows:

While the ending did see the characters fall in love, I couldn't help feeling that the power dynamic remained uneven, even after the ML seemingly "lost" control. The fact that he insisted on controlling when and where Xiao Zhou saw him grated slightly. It seemed like Xiao Zhou had to infiltrate a prison, wait for the ML's release, and then patiently wait for him to return, perpetuating the ML's dominance. Perhaps it was due to Xiao Zhou's intense love, but I still enjoyed the story despite this issue.

In a realistic assessment, it might be a 4, but my personal enjoyment soared to a 5. The story had an intriguing dynamic between the virtuous MC and the selfish, obsessive villain, creating an extremely imbalanced power struggle that aligned perfectly with the antagonist's character. Despite the MC's situational weakness, they possessed both physical strength and a resilient inner strength; the fact that others fell for them added a comical touch. The narrative was captivating, though the plot and pacing started to lose steam towards the climax. Overall, a riveting read despite its eventual pacing issues.

The narrative held significant promise, but its execution fell short. The storyline meanders and suffers from numerous inconsistencies, or "plotholes." While the beginning offers an engaging start, the plot loses momentum midway, with certain aspects defying logic. The main character's (ML) portrayal is unlikable, and the protagonist's forgiveness is unrealistic. With better handling, this could have been a compelling novel.

To be honest, I don't frequently indulge in novels based on real-life experiences or delve deeply into moral discussions outside of my professional life. At first, I found the male lead's character somewhat unappealing. However, as I progressed through the story, I discovered a depth and complexity to his character that surpassed that of the main character. The romantic aspect felt somewhat unexpected, particularly due to the main character's conflicting emotions up until the shower scene. Fortunately, the author's portrayal of human nature and societal dynamics made it engaging. Additionally, the translation added to the immersion, so I would rate this novel a solid 9.

All I can express is that the main character's (ML) behavior in this novel has utterly dampened my enthusiasm. There was a scene where one character questioned, "If *insert ML's name* can get away with being so wicked and still enjoy a comfortable life, why can't I? If you claim to be righteous, shouldn't you agree he deserves to suffer in hell alongside me?" This statement solidified my view that the ML is morally reprehensible, and it's impossible for me to find any redeeming qualities. Despite the author's claim that the ML walks a fine line between good and evil, I don't perceive any genuine goodness. There are instances, like when he briefly shows kindness by buying flowers for someone, but these moments are overshadowed by stark contrasts, like when he abandoned the protagonist in a dangerous situation, knowing full well it could lead to gang rape. He even admitted that if the outcome had been different, he wouldn't have cared about the protagonist's well-being. This complete lack of empathy and disregard for the protagonist's suffering ruins the reading experience for me.

The power dynamic between the characters is heavily skewed, and the main character's supposed innocence and purity seem forced when he accepts the ML's恶劣 actions without any hesitation. It's bewildering how someone can call themselves good while associating with someone who treats others so poorly. I've given this novel a fair chance, but unfortunately, the toxic relationship and the main character's contradictory behavior make it difficult to continue enjoying.
